Adjunct Counsel: Special Projects
Tim Montague is a marketing and development professional for all seasons, with expertise and experience in many aspects of fundraising planning, strategy, marketing, and front line service as a major gifts officer and grant writer. He is a specialist in environmental, science & technology based initiatives, and has provided services in strategic planning, case development, major gifts, and corporate and foundation relations. His firm, Montague Brands, provides sales and marketing consulting to the green building and renewable energy industries.
He serves as adjunct counsel with TW&B and together with his experience in major gift fundraising and strategic marketing, we are able to provide full campaign services to our clients where Tim is the lead counsel. He has served as Chief Advancement Officer for the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois, Director of Development for the Environmental Research Foundation, and Corporate Relations Manager for the Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago. For the past four years he has consulted with the Passive House Institute US, a non-profit dedicated to a more sustainable built environment.
Tim has helped a dozen non-profits raise more than $20,000,000 since 2005 including $12,000,000 for the Beckman Institute from 2009-2012, part of the University of Illinois’ successful $2.43 billion ‘Brilliant Futures’ campaign.
Tim’s volunteer work includes serving as immediate past president for the Association of Fundraising Professionals East Central Illinois Chapter (AFPECI) where he has served on the Executive Committee since 2012. He also serves on the boards of the Illinois Green Business Association and Champaign County Sustainability Network. He is a past board member of CASA of Champaign County.
Tim has held the CFRE credential from CFRE International since 2012. He is a graduate of the University California at San Diego, where he majored in ecology, evolution and behavior. He also holds a master of science degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He lives in Urbana, IL with his wife Angie and two sons. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, hiking, and playing with his pet cats Cayenne and Ginger.
